Recently, academician Huang Wei and Professor Chen Runfeng of the institute of information materials and nanotechnology in our university have made great progress in the field of organic afterglow. The achievement of “Thermally activated triplet exciton release for highly efficient tri-mode organic afterglow” has been published online in the international top journal Nature Communications (Nature, communications), which corresponding authors are professor Chen Runfeng and academician Huang Wei to corresponding author, and Jin Jibiao, a doctoral candidate is the first author of the paper.

The team led by academician Huang Wei and professor Chen Runfeng proposed that with the help of reasonable molecular design, long-lived excitons can be transformed effectively and the luminous efficiency of organic afterglow can be significantly enhanced. The newly-produced afterglow materials have a lifetime of 0.23s and its efficiency of up to 45%, which is the highest reported afterglow efficiency so far. This study utilizes the newly developed afterglow materials to expand the application in phosphorescent life imaging and visual temperature detection. The developed thermal activation tri-mode afterglow material can effectively enhance the afterglow efficiency and represent an important progress in the field of highly efficient organic afterglow.
