On May 23, the IEEE Communications Society announced 2016-2017 Best Journal Paper Award in the field of multimedia communications. Professor Zhou Liang from School of Communication and Information and the National Engineering Research Center for Communication and Networking Technologies of NJUPT won the prize for his sole-authored academic paper On Data-driven Delay Estimation for Media Cloud published onIEEE Transactions on Multimedia.
This kind of prize is awarded every two years with no more than 2 papers awarded each time, aiming to select the best academic papers having major theoretical innovations and technological breakthroughs from the high-level journal papers published in IEEE transactions/Journal/Magazine in the past two years. Through rigorous screening of nine experts in multimedia communications form the Award Board, prof. Zhou’ s paper beat other 78 rivals passing the primary selection to win the prize, which was the only award-winning paper in 2016-2017.
The paper makes an in-depth analysis of video services in both data and content to design an end-to-end user experience (QoE) objective representation model, effectively solving the technical problem that users of network multimedia services have difficulty achieving objective representation. In addition, the paper further comes up with the QoE automatic evaluation and promotion technology for large-scale and massive multimedia services, which has the advantages of low complexity, high accuracy and easy deployment, opening up a new solution for efficient multimedia communication and service in the world of bigdata.
